When summer hits and the sun starts beating down, I find myself craving a beach day. But here’s the thing—Worcester, MA, isn’t exactly known for its coastline. So, I’ve had to get creative. Over the years, I’ve discovered some great spots that are just a short drive away, offering everything from sandy shores to refreshing swims.

Whether you’re looking to stay close to home or don’t mind a bit of a drive, I’ve rounded up my top picks for beaches near Worcester. From lakefront retreats to ocean escapes, there’s something for every kind of beachgoer. Let’s dive in and find your perfect spot to soak up the sun.

Quinsigamond State Park

First up, Quinsigamond State Park is a great beach right in Worcester. It’s very easy to recommend this beach as it’s located in town so you’ll have to do absolutely no driving. This beach also has a pretty big parking lot so it can accommodate a crowd.

It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing family day. The park has a nice swimming beach and picnic tables with awnings, making it a perfect spot for a summer day. The lake offers beautiful sunrises, making it a great place to begin your day.

During the summer season there are lifeguards on duty and the available space for humans is bigger than the available car park so there is always some space to settle down in the sand.

Parking is $8 with an MA plate. Unfortunately, we think that non-residents can’t use this parking, however, we are not entirely certain.

Shore Park Beach

Shore Park Beach is a small, lakeside spot for outdoor activities. It features a sandy beach and a boathouse, making it a great place for the family on a hot summer day.

It’s a very small beach with limited parking so we recommend that you come early if you want to enjoy the refreshing waters of Indian Lake.

From lounging in the sun to swimming in the lake, there is something for everyone. The beach is kept clean, with the water and beach area well-maintained. The whole area was upgraded recently so it’s pretty neat. We loved coming to this beach when staying in Worcester.

Do note that keeping the beach clean also includes monitoring the water quality. At any time if the water is deemed unfit for swimming the beach may be closed. Although this is for your own safety it can be a bit of a letdown to find it closed. We recommend checking the gov site for any possible notices.

Coes Pond Beach

Coes Pond Beach is a small, sandy stretch on Coes Reservoir, with designated swimming areas, picnic spots, and even a restroom. It is a small beach, but with on-street parking being available it isn’t too hard to find a spot.

It’s not bad to sit and swim a bit and relax with the sound of the waves lapping against the shore. Locals love to enjoy this beach but it’s not perfect. There are some strong currents so we recommend staying close to the shore and definitely keeping an eye on children.

Check the gov site before visiting to make sure the water quality is okay for swimming and that the beach is open.

Nantasket Beach

Nantasket Beach is the first ocean beach near Worcester, MA that we mention. It’s quite a drive but doable for a day trip to the ocean. But you are not going to get anything really closer. The problem is that the two closest ocean access points to Worcester are two big cities: Boston and Providence respectively. So you gotta drive if you want a nice beach.

All that being said it does not get much nicer than Nantasket. The whole town is basically a Florida beach town put right onto the MA coastline.

It’s a big beach with big parking and a ton of opportunities for swimming, lounging, taking in the sun, and just all-around fun. It’s not a question that one of our favorite ocean beaches near Worcester is actually Nantasket Beach. We always have a lot of fun here.

Duxbury Beach Park

Nantasket Beach might be a nice pick with interesting architecture and a beach town feel but Duxbury Beach Park has all the rustic beach experience that you may be looking for.

It’s a beach and a state park. It’s not a town so there are no buildings in sight (except for a small restaurant in the parking lot). You’ll be right on the shore and in nature. It’s a vast sandy beach with stunning views and plenty of space to enjoy the sun and surf.

The beach itself is huge. Feels almost infinite and can definitely accommodate more people than there are parking spots so don’t worry about overcrowding, but still, try to come early to make sure you actually have parking.

Duxbury Beach Park is best for couples who want to get away from everyone and have some quality time together while soaking in the sun and swimming in the ocean.

East Matunuck State Beach

The final ocean beach we mention near Worcester, MA is East Matunuck State Beach. It’s a pleasant place and it’s actually in Rhode Island state instead of MA. So if you want to visit your neighbors for some swimming this is a nice choice.

East Matunuck State Beach is a vast sandy beach with plenty of opportunities for family-friendly activities. It is a beautiful beach with hot and cold showers available. The staff is good at keeping it clean and tidy.

The easy parking, food, and restroom facilities make it an ideal spot for a day at the beach. There are also plenty of benches in the upper pavilion offering some shade if the sun gets too hot. All in all, this beach has everything you need for a perfect day out.

Dennis F Shine Jr Swim Pool

Our last two places are pools in town. These are great places in Worcester if you want to enjoy the water but you don’t necessarily need a big beach.

The Dennis F Shine Jr Swim Pool is loved by families around town. It’s a very basic place but it’s all right if you are after refreshments. There is a play area for kids with shallow water and there is a small swimming area as well.

This pool is free to visit so we consider it a nice choice.

Crompton Park

Finally, you’ve got Crompton Park as a nice beach option in Worcester, MA. It’s a simple pool but it actually has a waterslide. Even the waterslide is small but let’s be honest here, it is focused on kids.

So once again we can recommend this place for families, especially with smaller children. They will enjoy the water and the small slide while they tire themselves out.
